Improved PFA Coating Increases Lifespan for Bakeries
Impreglon UK is a leading applicator of coatings for bakery equipment, both for the original equipment manufacturers and end users.
The coating most commonly used within the industry is a “sparkling black PFA” and it works very well. If there is a complaint with this coating it is that the coating doesn’t last longer. And when it does come to end of its working life the top coat suffers from localised peeling, rather like dead skin. The use of a metal layer arc sprayed beneath the PFA can help slow the sliding wear rate down, but to be properly effective the metal layer needs to be quite rough. And the roughness can start to overcome the sliding properties of the PFA.
Enter the solution from Impreglon. This modified PFA is inherently harder wearing so a metal layer beneath it is not needed. The mode of failure of the coating, at the end of its working life, is one of gradual wear rather than peeling. But the best bit is the longer life. Field testing with our clients has shown a near doubling of the coating life compared with the standard PFA. Yes, the new solution is a little dearer, but the payback is there from reduced lifetime recoating costs, reduced downtime and hence increased dough throughput.
