Resistance to Abrasion
Abrasion resistant coatings are used to improve or modify the surface hardness of a component and hence improve it's performance and lifespan.
The coating most commonly applied is Tungsten Carbide. Depending on the application and the part, post coating machining is often carried out.
Abrasion resistant coatings are often found in heavy engineering such as quarrying though are also used where localised wear is a problem, such as in wire drawing.
The application of a fluoropolymer with the abrasion resistant coating can be used to give a hard wearing coating with release properties.
